How to use the stock screener
- Start broad. Pick a sector or a minimum market cap to define your universe; $2B and up removes most small, illiquid companies.
- Add one or two criteria. A P/E range screens for valuation, a minimum dividend yield for income, and a volume floor for liquidity.
- Sort the results. Rank by the metric that matters most to you, then open each company to check financials, earnings and news.
What the filters mean
- Market cap: share price times shares outstanding, the market's value of the company.
- P/E ratio: price divided by trailing 12-month earnings per share. Companies with losses have no P/E and are excluded when a P/E filter is set.
- Dividend yield: annual dividends per share divided by the share price.
- Volume: average number of shares traded per day.

- Is the MetaCap stock screener free?
- Yes. The screener is free to use without an account. Data covers US-listed stocks and is delayed at least 15 minutes.
- What is a good P/E ratio?
- There is no single good P/E. It depends on growth, industry and interest rates. The S&P 500 has historically averaged roughly 15 to 20 times earnings; fast-growing companies often trade higher and mature, cyclical companies lower.
- How do I find dividend stocks with the screener?
- Set Dividend yield to your minimum, such as 3% or more, add a market cap floor like $10B to focus on established companies, and sort by dividend yield. Then check payout ratios and dividend history on each company's dividends page.
